Boat Safety Equipment: Using Marine Radios for Help

Personal safety or safety at sea is the top priority. Marine radios are important boat safety equipment used to prevent personal injury or loss of life and avoid damage to the environment and ships. Proper use of radios enables rescuers to quickly and efficiently assess the situation and act accordingly.

Marine Distress Signals

“MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY”- This signal is only to be used when a person, or boat is threatened by grave or imminent danger, and requires assistance. If you issue a MAYDAY call, put everyone in life jackets first.

“PAN PAN, PAN PAN, PAN PAN”– This signal is used  for urgent messages that aren’t emergency, like when someone has fallen overboard, or a boat is drifting into shore or a busy shipping channel.

SOS in Morse Code- Using marine radio or another signalling method to send it, like continuously using sound signalling equipment for SOS.

Emergency Channel On Marine Radio

CHANNEL 16: Channel 16 (156.8 MHz) is designated as the national distress, safety and calling frequency. All vessels should monitor this channel while underway. All non-emergency traffic should be communicated on another channel (not channels 9 or 16).

And its Noise Reduction Function (NRC) helps reduce background noise and reduce echo during calls.  RM21 comes with a desktop charger to ensure stable charging. The battery capacity of RM21 is 1800 mAh. Its working time is up to about 10 hours, and its standby time is up to about 60 hours. RM21 also has other features, including Dual/Tri-Watch Functions, Normal Scan and Priority Scan, Favorite Channel Function, Busy Channel Lock, etc.
